Samurai news

Samurai just released a "new"(it's actually been produced before), slim cut - the S0710, this time in 19oz denim. It's supposed to be close to as slim as the S0505, but my S0500s are slimmer than my 505s, whilst being a larger size, so they might be a better buy if you want a slim cut. Can't be that much of a difference though.
However, I'm sad to say that I won't be getting a pair of the S0710XX19oz since I already have three pairs of Samurais, two of them being blue. People would think I was wearing the same pair of jeans everyday since they look so similar!! Wait.. I already do..
The only way I see myself getting a pair is if Samurai would send me a pair for a review and "promotional" purposes(hint, hint Toshiko.)

The S0710 has the usual details like hidden rivets, two-tone stitching, silver selvedge and so on, but the unusual black backpocket stitching. A nice change, especially as I sometimes think my Samurais are a little too flashy.

You'll be able to pre-order them at samurai-j.com in mid-January.

Hopefully the 19oz denim isn't as annoying as the denim of the S0500XX and S5000VX/BK and shrinks to tag size. The latter two shrinks to 2-3 inches bigger than tag size with a couple of soaks and apparently need a wash or two to come down to tag size. I don't like it.
My competition jeans are hang-drying after their second soak by the way, they're about a month old now and I'll be posting pictures in a few days.
denimcontest.com isn't working right now, but you can see pics of the other contestants' jeans at http://www.clarksvegas.com/denim/, hopefully the domain will be pointed at this site instead soon.

Samurai also posted the winners in the S5000BK lottery and our thoughts about the wallets. Go here to see what I said, and what the other two said, if you can read Japanese.

Denim Demon

Denim Demon is a new promising Swedish brand that came out with their first jeans just yesterday. They will definitely meet fierce competition in the other similar Swedish brands like Pace, Nudie, Bay Icon and De Palma, but I like Denim Demon more as I think there is more of a vintage-feel over them. That's no wonder, because the first model, shown below, is made after the Levi's 1947 501, but with straighter hips to make them look better worn low.

They are only made in 286 pairs, all individually numbered. Right now they are a Solo exclusive, but they will be sold in other stores come Spring. If you can't make it to the stores, you can email info@denimdemon.net and they'll work something out for you, whether your inside or outside of Sweden.

These jeans are made in Italy and of Italian 13 1/4 oz denim. The denim is sanforized as well as singed, meaning the won't shrink much and that the hairy fibres have been removed.
They currently do not have hidden rivets on the backpockets and no crotch rivet, but that might change with the next batch.
The Spring collection will also include a slimmer, 505-like pair of jeans and a few t-shirts. The denim used for the Spring collection will be a heavier, 14.5 oz redline.

What really makes me like Denim Demon is the demon character and the fit. It's a well executed, slightly more modern cut that still has the authentic feel to it. The sizes are quite large though, so if you can't make it to the store but want a pair anyway, ask for measurements before ordering!

News from Denim Demon will be shown here and on www.denimdemon.net!
Their site should be updated with more material in a day or so.

Worn together with a Harley Davidson wallet.

Compared to the '47 501.

The same lady demon that is on the paper tag is stitched on the inside of the right backpocket.
The backpockets are also half-lined.

Coin pocket selvedge.

Top, '47 501, bottom, Denim Demon.
They have a nice narrow and completely white selvedge.

From denim to body parts

.. just six-month it all!!

That's what Carla Boakes does with her hair.

Standing by a bar in a turquoise satin dress, her petite size eight figure and pretty features command a number of admiring glances from men and women alike.

In fact, one might go as far as to say she didn't have a hair out of place. And you would be right - because her hair isn't moving at all. The last time Carla washed it was six months ago.

......

"It doesn't always have great movement, but it does have a lot of body, is very shiny, healthy and rich in colour.

"It feels natural and chemical-free and I'm reluctant to reintroduce shampoo into my life again - especially because I've probably saved several hundred pounds on hair products.

......

"Night-time was the worst. With my head on the pillow, all I could do was smell how bad it was. It's difficult to describe what it was like - more musty than mouldy - but nevertheless unpleasant."

So bad was the smell during those first few weeks that Carla almost threw in the proverbial towel - not that she needed one to dry her hair with anyway.

.....

"Also, we all shed skin which sits on the scalp unless it's shampooed away. If you have a dry scalp, massaging the glands when you shampoo it helps stimulate oil production and nourishes the skin."

Marilyn Sherlock, chairman of the Institute of Trichologists, is also doubtful.

"There is no way hair will start cleaning itself with natural oils. Natural oils actually attract dirt and nothing apart from a good shampoo will get rid of it."

I actually knew someone who did something similar, but it was more because he was a dirty person. Didn't work out that well for him.

I'm going to try and find her email and get her hooked on denim!

Samurai Wallet

I just received the wallet that I won in the lottery associated with the S5000BK's and it's soo nice!
Nice, and huge!

I have no idea what it says, maybe someone could help translate?

Made by KC's.

Compared to the wallet I'm currently using, which is already big.
I need to buy a belt to go with the wallet before I start using it, because the braid needs to be attached to a belt, it doesn't look good when it's just attached to a belt loop.
This wallet is much too big to use without a braid or chain, both for security reasons and because it might slip out of my pocket.

I am kind of hesitant to use it though, since it's a three-of-a-kind wallet and because it's just so nice right now. But I think that I will use it, at least every now and then!

Jeans night at SOLO

I went to SOLO's jeans night last saturday for some denim action.
They were selling pieces from old LVC, Lee Originals and Wrangler Blue Bell collections at half price and the beer was free, doesn't get much better than that.
They had some rare pieces since a lot of the stuff was from older collections, most of it I probably won't see again. I don't know if the things that didn't sell are still out in the store, I'd suggest you go and check it out, maybe you can get a nice deal still.
I'm a little sad that I only bought a pair of Wrangler cords, but I have "enough" jeans(not that you can ever have enough jeans..) well, at least in proportion to how much money I have.
I can't afford to start collecting right now as I am still a student. I really need to get a job to support my expensive habits, I don't want to miss out on something like this again!
Anyway, I had a great time, I wish these things would happen more often!
